China has just opened its first glass-bottomed suspension bridge and being nearly 300 meters long and 180 meters up from the ground, it definitely isn’t for the faint of heart.

According to Chinese newspaper, the People’s Daily, the high-altitude, transparent bridge was opened this past Thursday in Zhangjiaje Grand Canyon in Central China’s Hunan province.

It is expected to be named the longest and tallest glass-bottomed bridge in the world.

A team of 11 engineers carried out the work, adding new steel cables and struts for support before replacing the wooden slats with panes of glass, doubled up to give a thickness of 24 millimeters (0.94 inches).

Workers are paving an existing suspended bridge, which is 300 meters long and 180 meters above the ground, into a special 'glass floor bridge', in hope to give tourists more much exciting experience while traveling to the Shiniuzhai National Geopark in Pingjiang county, in central China's Hunan province on Sep. 10. It is reported that a small part of the bridge was paved with glass floor last year, giving tourists breathtaking experience. So the park decided to change the whole bridge into a transparent bridge, and the bridge will be named as Haohan Bridge, which means "Brave Men's Bridge". The glass floor is double layer, and will be 24mm thick in total. (CNS)
